Paul Griggs Gartman was one of nine children born to Miles "Tunney" Gartman and Viola Boothe Gartman. He was born just across the Mobile/Washington County line near Charity Chapel, Alabama. He married Gillie "Mae" Wood on August 4, 1941. He served in the US Army as a Captain during World War II.
