Kenneth I. Lillehaug, 89, of Wessington Springs, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Weskota Manor/Avera Health, Wessington Springs.
He was born Dec. 6, 1922.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Wessington Springs, with burial to follow in Solberg Lutheran Cemetery.
He was born in Jerauld County, son of Anton and Bertha (Nesje) Lillehaug. As the child of a first-generation Norwegian-American mother and second-generation Norwegian-American father, Kenneth grew up speaking only Norwegian. He learned English when he began attending first grade in Viola Township school. Kenneth graduated from Lane High School in 1942.
He took over his parents' farm northwest of Wessington Springs and lived and worked there until moving into Wessington Springs in 2006. A highlight of Kenneth's retirement was traveling with his sister, Bernice, to Norway to visit relatives.
Survivors include his sister, Bernice Lillehaug, of Wessington Springs; and cousins Leland Lillehaug (Ardis), Edina, Minn.; Verda Stroh of Bremerton, Wash.; Dorothy Erickson of Tulsa, Okla.; Judy (Bill) Koens of Buckley, Wash.; Andrea Macmillan (Mac) of Long Beach, Calif.; Dorothy Butler of Fairfield, Calif.; and Bette Ann (Larry) Burkhart of Gig Harbor, Wash.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a 2-year-old brother, Arthur Bernard Lillehaug. - [FIND-A-GRAVE] Find a Grave, https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/149439060/kenneth-i-lillehaug.
