A memorial service for Dorrance N. Davick, 80, of Rochester will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dr. Norman Wahl officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorrance Neil Davick was born on July 23, 1938 in Stanley, ND to parents, Peter and Selma (Hallan) Davick.
He died on April 3, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Dorrance graduated from Stanley High School. He lettered in football, basketball and baseball all while his love of golf was blossoming. He studied English at Minot State Teacher's College for a year
prior to entering the military. He was stationed in South Korea and earned extra money for his mom through the tutoring of a Korean banker.
He was honorably discharged from the Army, moved home to Stanley to help support his mom, and went to work at the local funeral home in Stanley.
In 1970, he went back to college at Montana State (studying Fish and Wildlife Biology).
He married Janice Berntson in 1971.
Living in the Gallatin Canyon allowed him to pursue his passions of hunting and fishing. Daughter Liv was born in 1972.
Dorrance attended North Dakota State and entered the management trainee program with J.C. Penney Company. During his journey with J.C. Penney Company, he had stops in Willmar (son Andrew was born in 1976), Rochester, Redfield (SD) and eventually Decorah (IA). He retired in 1998.
Following retirement, he painted houses, delivered baby chicks and worked for the census bureau but most of his time was spent with family and friends.
Dorrance will be remembered for his smile. His love for family and friends was genuine and he treated everyone around him with kindness and grace. He loved time with his grandkids, playing a round of golf, fishing, hunting and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Davick of Rochester, MN; son, Andrew (Shana) Davick of Byron, MN and daughter, Liv (Chris) Davick Olivere of Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren, Brendan and Liliana; one brother, Duane (Paula) Davick of Hastings, MN, one sister Patricia Jensen of Stanley, ND and sister-in-law Carole Davick of Bellevue, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Selma, two brothers, Roger and Gordon "Boop" Davick and one sister, Shirley Lidstrom.
Memorials are preferred to Ronald McDonald House or Hawk Creek Human Society, 250 28th St. SW, Wilmar, MN 56201.
