Funeral services for George Didrikson of Badger, MN will be held on Monday, June 13th at 11 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church south of Badger, MN. Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 6-8 PM with an 8:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Interment will be at the Nannestad Cemetery.
George V. Didrikson passed away on June 9, 2011 at the LifeCare Greenbush Manor at the age of 81.
George was born on October 29, 1929 on the family farm south of Badger, where he resided his entire life. He attended country schools at Kletzen and Garland. He was baptized and confirmed at the Nannestad Lutheran Church south of Badger. George served in the U.S. Army in Japan from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.
He and Dorothy Pesek were married on October 12, 1957 in Badger at Our Redeemers Church. Four children were born to the union; Gene, Gerald, Kim and Kay.
George was a farmer at heart and enjoyed it all of his life. He also enjoyed his time hunting, and fishing at Springsteel and Buffalo Bay where they spent many summers. Dorothy and George enjoyed their many travels, including the years vacationing in Texas. George was a supervisor for 50 years of Nereson Township and 9 years as Director of Roseau County Co-Op.
George is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 53 years; sons, Gene Didrikson of Badger, Gerald (special friend, Sherry) Didrikson of Badger, daughters, Kim (Bruce) Russell of Manassas, VA and Kay (Duey) Naatz of Menomonie, WI; grandchildren, Kassandra Didrikson, Christina Cain, Kevin Russell, Brian Russell, Tyler Naatz and Adam Naatz; great-grandchildren, Dustin Didrikson and Khailiegh Cain; sisters, JoAnn (Ron) Bina of Dent, MN, Eva Gregerson of Badger, Etta (Ed) Mooney of Thief River Falls, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Elizabeth; sisters, Jessie Nelson and Dorothy Grotte; and brothers, Marvin and Severt Didrikson; and grandchild, Sadie Didrikson.
Military Honors by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.
