      Son of William Brice Fitzgerald and Edna Irene (Williams) Fitzgerald. He served as a marine officer first on the beach in Okinawa and later coached the marine basketball team. He and Shirley Williams were married 55 years.

      He was a graduate of the University of Texas and remained an active member of the "T" association after his basketball career. He was an active member of the Houston Devil Dog Chapter of the First Marine Division Association. He spent 30 years with Texaco, Inc., and retired from the regional sales staff in 1976. Later he spent much of his time helping others to overcome alcohol and drug dependency.

      His mother's death certificate shows her name as Edna Irene (Williams) Krause, but her grave marker is engraved as Edna W. Fitzgerald.
