Shirley Fitzgerald was born in Gulf, Texas, to Darwin and Virginia (Foster) Willliams. She married Jack Dillard Fitzgerald before World War II. Jack served as a marine officer first on the beach in Okinawa and later coached the marine basketball team. They were married 55 years. They were charter members and officers of the Bellaire AA Club. Both were alumni of University of Texas, where he was a final four basketball player. Shirley achieved "Emerald Life Master" World Champion Bridge Player. She was an avid sports fan, who kept Astros stats and basketball fever all season long. She is survived by two daughters, her grandchildrn and great grandchildren. She was a life-tme member of Westbury Baptist Church.
A celebration of her life was held on Monday, December 4, 2006, at Westbury Baptist Church in Houston, Minister Randy Mitchell officiating. Memorial donations can be made to Houston Hospice.
