Roy Lee "Bandy" Sabrsula, 68, of Beasley, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2006, in Houston. Roy was born April 6, 1938 to Frank and Albina Repka Sabrsula. He grew up in Wallis and graduated from Wallis High School.
Roy was an avid community leader, serving as councilman and mayor protem for the city of Beasley for over 25 years. He was an enthusiastic member of the Beasley Volunteer Fire Department and Friedens United Church of Christ, holding various offices and serving on numerous committees. Roy could always be counted to do whatever needed to be done to help organizations and even individuals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Albina Repka Sabrsula of Wallis; and brother, Franklin Sabrsula of Lake Jackson.
Roy is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons, Jonathon Sabrsula and wife, Hallie, and Timothy Sabrsula; grandson, Dylan Roy Sabrsula, all of Beasley; sisters, Doris Berry of Houston, Rose Kovar and husband, Frank, and Loyce Reber of Wallis; sisters-in-law, Joyce Novosad and husband, Gilbert, of Rosenberg, and Judy Janecek Kimrey, of Richmond; his "other sons" nephews, Jeffrey Janecek and wife, Lauren, of Beasley, and Stephen Janecek of Richmond; and many other nieces and nephews and friends.
Because of a fire and reconstruction of Friedens United Church of Christ, services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the church.
Memorials may be made to Friedens United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 112, Beasley, Texas, 77417, or the Beasley Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 129, Beasley, Texas, 77417. Floral gifts may be delivered to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley after 4 p.m. Tuesday, or between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday.
