A funeral mass for Josephine Gertrude Zatopek Jan, 92, of Rosenberg, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. William D. Bartniski officiating. Interment will follow at West Gethsemane Gardens in Rosenberg. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m.
Josephine was born on September 3, 1921 in Needville, Texas to Joe Roman Zatopek and Marie Lubojacky Zatopek. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg. She held several memberships including the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, K.J.Z.T., and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Josephine volunteered at Polly Ryon for many years and she took great pride in being a Eucharistic Minister to those unable to attend Mass. She passed away on March 19, 2014 at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home #2 in Needville.
Josephine is preceded in death by her husband, Lumir C. Jan; parents, Joe and Marie Zatopek; sister, Elizabeth Zacek; brother, Alfons Zatopek; granddaughter, Mandy Lee Jan Phillips; and great-grandson, Logan Elijah Horelica.
Josephine is survived by her children, Kenneth Jan and special friend, Mary Sinkowski, Leroy Lee Jan and wife, Vicki, Marilyn Horelica and husband, Ronnie, Margie Bartos and husband, Donald, Lois Gerstenberger and husband, Don, Rita Hruzek and husband, Rick, Deedi Kelley and husband, Bryant; sister, Mary McCafferty; brother, Leonard Zatopek and wife, Martha; grandchildren, Donny Jan Phillips and wife, Kimberly, Leigh Anne Lake and husband, Scott, Robby Jan and wife, Rhiannon, Todd Horelica and friend, Jessi Baker, Brandon Horelica and wife, Jessica, Mark Gerstenberger, Jenna Gerstenberger and fiance, Brian Rice, Thomas Jones, Taryn Hruzek, Keaton Hruzek, Kristine Manera and husband, Mike, Kyle Kelley and wife, Whitney, and Kevin Kelley; great-grandchildren, Bryson and Braydon Lake, Joshua and Dain Phillips, Caelan Horelica, and Kase and Macy Manera; along with other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will include Josephine's grandsons.
