Richard was born in Houston, Texas on March 25, 1955, to Alvin August Kocurek and Loyce Cheatham Kocurek. He passed from this life Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin August Kocurek, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Kocurek; sons, Rick Kocurek (Emily), and Trent Kocurek (Terri); step-sons, Benjamin Curths, Jacob Curths, and Michael Curths; grandchildren, Sawyer Kocurek, Oliver Kocurek, Isla Kocurek, Tethys Curths; and a host of family and friends.
Richard served proudly in the United Stated Marine Corp. He loved his country and was very proud of it. The family describes him as a most loyal friend who always strove to help people, even strangers, no matter what else he had going on. He was also quite a prankster and had a great sense of humor, loving to scare people and play jokes. He loved the outdoors and would go hunting and fishing at every opportunity. He was a Marine, police officer, restaurant owner, a very creative and motivated entrepreneur, and a selfless and caring man. Richard created a lasting legacy for himself and his family, whom he loved so much. A one-of-a-kind gentleman who will be missed greatly.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, friends and family donate to Disabled American Veterans, in memory of Richard.
