In the quiet whispers of dawn on May 5, 2024, we bid a sorrowful farewell to a true fighter, David Preston Crockett, 3rd great grandson of the famous Davy Crockett, whose spirit and bravery outshone even in the face of cancer's relentless siege. David's journey was one of formidable courage, a testament to the strength woven into the fabric of his being, inspiring those around him to hold fast to hope and love even in the darkest of times. Now, as we navigate the void left by his departure, let us envelop his family in a cocoon of prayers and support. May our collective thoughts and well-wishes be the light guiding them through this tunnel of grief, remind them that they are not alone in this journey of healing. David's legacy, etched in the hearts of those he touched, continues to radiate love, urging us to cherish every moment and to live with the same indomitable spirit that he embodied.

David was a member of First Baptist Church in Bay City Texas, a 56-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a lifetime member of the SRT, and a lifetime member of the Direct Descendants of David Crockett. David spent 20+ years presenting history lessons of Davy Crockett to elementary schools around south Texas with Raleigh Conklin and Mike Mahavier. The three also had much fun being Pirates in the various Matagorda County parades.

David was preceded in death by his daughter, Jana LeAnn Crockett; parents, Helen Rose and Preston Robert Crockett; and brother, Robert Lee Crockett.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Mahavier Crockett; sister, Marilyn Knox; sister-in-law, Joyce Crockett; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the many friends for the prayers, calls and cards during this time of illness as well as the staff at MD Anderson and the El Campo Hospice for their care during the four months of David's illness. (Obit. penned by Sky Nicole Mahavier Pena, great niece.)

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
