DAVID MAHAVIER
"David Henry Mahavier, age 74, of Spring and formerly of Wharton, died Sunday March 11, 2012, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Newgulf, a son of the late James Arthur Mahavier and Alelia Foster Otto Mahavier.
"David was reared in the Newgulf area and attended school there. He later attended Wharton County Junior College and obtained his bachelor's degree from Lamar University in Beaumont. David married Jane Lange Farley on Jan. 30, 1960 in Wharton. He was a graphic artist and painted in water colors for many years. David enjoyed traveling to historical missions in Texas and was a member of the Sons of the Republic, the Texas Army, the Sons of the American Revolution and the Bodo Otto Association. David was active in historical reenactments throughout the state of Texas. He was also a member of the Woodlands Art League and was associated with the Water Color Art Society of Houston.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Arthur Mahavier Jr.
"According to his wishes, Mr. Mahavier was cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. If you would like to make a donation to the American Cancer Society, Cancer.org, in David's name that would be greatly appreciated.
"Survivors include wife, Jane Mahavier of Spring; daughter, Deborah Jones and husband, David, of Dobbin; son, Jay Alan Mahavier and wife, Suzanne Kathleen Link, of Austin; grandson, Nathan Lloyd Jones; sister, Elizabeth Lorraine Petter; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Nell Mahavier.
"Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home."
