Dr. Henry Hildebrand went into the presence of the Lord on February 7, 2006. He was born November 16, 1911 in Steinfeld, Ukraine, to Peter and Anne Hildebrand. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925 and settled in Winkler. Manitoba. He accepted his Saviour at the Canadian Sunday School Mission Camp in Gimli, Manitoba. Two weeks later Henry joined the Grosweide Mennonite Brethren Church, near Plum Coulee, Manitoba. He attended Winnipeg Bible Institute from 1929 1933 which included a year of post-graduate studies. It was there he met his darling Inger Soyland, who became his wife in 1937. God blessed that union with five children: Marcia (Phil) Leskewich, Evelyn (Robert) Moore, David (Jeannie), Paul (Corinne), Glen (Joanne). Dr. Hildebrand was Founder and President of Briercrest Family of Schools from 1935 1977; Chancellor from 1977 1990; and Chancellor Emeritus from 1990 until the present time. He studied at Wheaton College and Winona School of Theology earning a Master of Arts in 1966. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Providence College in 1977 and an Honorary Doctor of Pedagogy from Briercrest Family of Schools in 1992. He received the Order of Canada in 1977 for his tremendous contribution to youth in Canada; and a Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 in celebration of the Queen's 50th year of reign.
Henry is predeceased by his beloved wife, Inger, in October 2003, by son and daughterin-law Dr. David and Jeannie, son-in-law Dr. Bob Moore, and grandson Paul Moore.
He is survived by four children, fourteen grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren. Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Road, Abbotsford BC and a Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Hildebrand Chapel, Carenport, SK, followed by interment at the Carenport Cemetery. In memory of Dr. Hildebrand, memorial donations may be made to the Briercrest Family of Schools and/or the HildebrandSoyland Scholarship at Briercrest Schools. Faithful as a servant in all God's house. (Hebrews 3:5), and dedicated to his beloved wife and family. He was a leader who understood the times, (I Chronicles 12:32). God called him home to his eternal reward. We await the resurrection morn when we meet again. Arrangements entrusted to Henderson's Funeral Home 604-854-5534 and Parkview Funeral Home 306-694-5500.
