      MARIE C. 'RED' GROSS, 97 MOTHER OF ROCKFORD PHYSICIAN JO ANN HOLOKA, M.D. LOVING WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND GREAT-GRANDMOTHER ROCKFORD - Marie C. "Red" Gross, 97, of Rockford, former longtime resident of River Forest, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born Nov. 13, 1911, in Plummer, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Sarah (Magnuson) Kolseth. Marie was a registered nurse and a graduate of Lakeview Memorial/Michael Reese School of Nursing, during which time she met Harold Gross. She married Harold on Jan. 5, 1934, in Chicago. Marie raised eight children and retired in 1991 at the age of 81. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in River Forest, loved sewing, cooking, crafts, gardening and had a special love for German shepherds, especially Amber. Marie is survived by her children, Charlene Martin, Dennis Gross, Phyllis Trowbridge, Burton (Teri) Gross, Dr. Jo Ann (Michael) Holoka and Linda (Abdo) Faddoul; grandchildren, Donald Martin, Tina and Ronald Trowbridge, Rebecca "Becky" Fluchel, Jeffrey Gross, Joseph "Joey" and Michelle Faddoul and Beverly Holoka; and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Harold, on Jan. 7, 1980; sons, Donald and Jerome "Jerry"; daughter, Marlene; and brothers, Carl and Elmer. Service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7300 W. Division St., River Forest, with the Rev. Lueking officiating. Burial in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, also from 11 a.m. Wednesday, to time of service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Les Turner ALS Foundation, 5550 W. Touhy Ave., Suite 302, Skokie, IL 60077; or American Diabetes Association, 30 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 2015, Chicago, IL 60602.
