Opal Joy Newton Garrett went to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 31,2013. She was born July 25,1916 in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Jefferson High School where she was a member of the Yamessee Sorority and attended Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. She was a lifetime member of Central Christian Church, and the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of a bridge club with her special friends for seventy years. She volunteered as a Bluebird at Methodist hospital, and was a member of Oak Hills Country Club, Starlight Dance and Supper Club, and the K Supper Club.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother Claude and Lulu Newton, her sister Marcita Bullock, her brother Bryant Newton and her loving husband of sixty nine years Oscar Garrett, Jr.
