Glen was born November 21, 1925, in St. John’s Township, the son of Charles and Bertha (Rusten) Rambow. He attended Priam School from 1st-8th grade and graduated from Willmar High School in 1943. Following his graduation, he was drafted into the United States Navy on January 26, 1945. He served on the USS Copahee, an escort carrier, and was Honorably Discharged on July 12, 1946. He returned to the Raymond area where he worked for Quality Dairy for a year before he started farming.
On March 17, 1951, he was united in marriage to Signe V. Jacobson at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Pennock. They farmed and lived near Raymond eventually settling on the Rambow Homestead (which is now a Century Farm) in 1979. He had fond memories, as a young boy, of walking beside his grandfather as he plowed with a team of horses. He also remembered the years of threshing grain and how everyone worked together to get the crop in.
His family remembers his love for them, the land and baseball. He was a conservation farmer using ridge-tilling techniques in order to preserve the soil. He was known to be able to fix anything with wire, baling twine or by welding. He loved raising sheep, horses, and cattle. In earlier years he enjoyed golf, bowling and then camping with Signe when they were empty-nesters. They also went to Norway several times and connected with relatives whose ancestors had come to Minnesota.
Glen was a life-long member of Raymond United Methodist church where he served as an usher and as an organizer of the annual Smelt Fry- even going to Duluth to catch the smelt. He was an active member of the National Farmers Organization (NFO) and the Raymond American Legion. He played baseball at Willmar High School and played town ball two years with the Willmar Colonels and 13 years with the Raymond Rockets. He and his twin brother Gerald have two flagpoles at Baker Field dedicated in their honor and he was inducted into the Raymond Rocket Hall of Fame in 2014. One of the highlights of his last years was watching four of his grandsons play town ball for the New London-Spicer Twins.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Signe; children: Steven (and special friend, Cindy Lahr) of Spicer; Kathy (and John) Hartley of Spicer; Daniel Rambow of Raymond; Jon (and Sharon) Rambow of Willmar; 10 grandchildren: S Scott (Rachel) Rambow, Mackenzie (and David) Stickney, Alexandra (and Taylor Schmisek) Hartley, Jack (and special friend, Margaret Ward) Hartley, Adam Rambow, Brooke (and Anthony Jaekel) Rambow, Derek Rambow, Jacob Rambow, Austin Rambow, and Dalton Rambow; and four great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Adeline, and Coltt Rambow and Ellie Stickney. Also surviving are his siblings: Marian (and Earl) Larson, Floyd Rambow, Allan (and Carol) Rambow, Mavis Hultgren, and Judy (and Rollie) Boll all of Willmar; and sister-in-law, Donna Dee Rambow of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Stefanee Janae Rambow, grandson, J Stevenson Rambow, twin brother, Gerald Rambow; brother-in-law, Donald Hultgren and sisters-in-law, Lillian and Mary Rambow.
