Eric S. Alyea, 54, of Columbia departed from this temporary life to begin a new journey on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012. The Mizzou Marine Corps League, friends and family will gather at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Jacksonville to place Eric's ashes with his fellow comrades. Eric was born to James O. and Bertha Christenson Alyea in Nevada, Iowa. Eric spent most of his life in Cape Girardeu until joining the Marines in 1976. Eric served in many capacities in the military and shared his experience and knowledge with those around him. Eric owned his own insulation business after serving in the military. The one thing Eric loved and spoke of often were his days in aviation, not only as a pilot, but also as a flight instructor. Eric loved children. He worked as a Marine Corps volunteer on the Toys for Tots drives. He was a safety instructor for the Boy Scouts through the NRA and loved to converse and play with his little friend, Aria Biehl. Eric never met a stranger; he truly loved making people smile. Eric studied and mastered many cultures, languages and arts. He was a true Renaissance man. Eric is survived by his true loves, Cathy Reynolds and Jade, Whitney and Jayda. He also is survived by his three siblings, Kristin Fowlkes, James E. Alyea and Daniel Alyea; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
