Floyd Garner Gartman was the son of Miles Tunney Gartman and Viola Boothe Gartman. He was one of nine children. He is the brother of Joe, Ruby, Mamie, Bootsie,Paul, Charlie, Eli and a stillborn baby who may have been named Quitman.
He was my Uncle Garner. When I was a little girl, he lived with his mother Grandma Viola at their old homeplace on Odom Road near the county line. I remember him wearing overalls and chewing tobacco and telling me stories about his "pet alligator" that he made up for me. After his mother died, he moved to Meinhardt Trailer Park in Citronelle and his brother Joe bought the homeplace and moved there from Oregon.
Uncle Garner was a very comical fellow and was always cracking jokes. In this picture, he was chewing tobacco when I asked to take his picture. He said to hold on just a minute and then he let the tobacco "juice" run down his face and chin for the picture.
