Bertal Lillehaug
Former Bremerton resident Bertal "Bert" Lillehaug, 101, died Jan. 19, 1999, in Tacoma.
He was born Jan. 24, 1897, in Lane, S.D., to Bolsar and Andrea (Nord) Lillehaug.
On July 2, 1919, he married Beryl Spracklin.
In 1942, they moved to Bremerton and he started working in the blacksmith shop at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Later, he worked as a caretaker at Coleman Christian Camp, retiring in 1972 after 25 years.
He is survived by one son, Alvin of Seattle; four daughters, Arlene Engel of Sequim, Verda Stroh of Bremerton, Bonnie Rose Eller of Clarks Fork, Idaho, and Bette Ann Burkhart of Gig Harbor; 15 grandchildren, Paul Engel and Rosie Fabina of Florida, Collette Larson of Montana, Sharon Gray and Linda Smith of Bremerton, Alvin Jr. of Woodinville, Don and Greg of Seattle, Susie Millard and Russell Dawson of Idaho, Jim Dawson of Oregon, Tony Psaris of Tacoma, Meagon and Schuyler Burkhart of Tacoma, and Rita Falconer of Gig Harbor; 25 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Aug. 13, 1989. Also preceding him in death were four brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 23 at the Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor with a reception immediately following in the Fellowship Hall.
