      Riley Strand, 87, Plaza, died Monday Jan. 15, 1996, in a New Town nursing home.

      He was born Aug 5, 1908, to Isaac and Martha Strand, in Lake Township near Benson, Minn. He was raised and attended school in the Benson area. He moved to Van Hook in 1945 and started a blacksmith shop with his brother Melvin. In 1949, they moved to LItchville, where they operated a blacksmith shop until 1977. They then moved to Plaza, where they operated a blacksmith shop, and were semi-retired. He lived in Plaza until he entered the New Town Nursing Home in 1992.

      Survivors: sister, Inez Loen, Parshall; brother, Gunther, Alexandria, Minn.

      Funeral: Saturday at 1 p.m. in New Town Nursing Home.
      Burial: East Plaza Cemetery.

      Visitation: Today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Johnson Funeral Home, Parshall.
